Western Stars at the Stock Show: Young Guns, Deep Roots & a Living Western Legacy
We’re proud to share that Western Stars Gallery had three artists selected for this year’s National Western Stock Show “Young Guns” exhibition — a juried showcase celebrating emerging and next-generation voices in Western art.
For more than a century, the National Western Stock Show in Denver has stood as one of the country’s most iconic gatherings honoring ranching, agriculture, heritage, and Western culture. Its fine art exhibitions play an important role in that ecosystem — elevating artists whose work reflects the grit, beauty, wildlife, landscape, and lived stories of the American West. To be selected for “Young Guns” is no small honor; it signals both artistic excellence and a future- facing contribution to this enduring tradition.
Even sweeter? All three of these artists were part of our recent 12 Days of Christmas Sneak Peek Pop-Up at 160 Main.
Two are beloved local painters — Malena Hirschfeld and Cody Kuehl — whose work continues to energize and inspire our creative community here in Lyons and throughout the region. Their selection underscores what we’ve long believed: exceptional Western art is being created right here in our mountain town.
The third, Nelson Tucker, is a highly regarded scratchboard artist from Monument, Colorado. His inclusion feels especially meaningful to us. Nelson is the son of jewelry artist Nancy Krause and renowned painter Ezra Tucker — both of whom have been represented here at Western Stars since we first opened our doors in 2015.
There’s something powerful about witnessing this kind of creative lineage — seeing artistic excellence carried forward across generations while new voices rise alongside established masters. Western art is not static or nostalgic; it is living, evolving, and deeply rooted in place.
Moments like this remind us that a truly authentic creative economy is built not from trends, but from sustained investment in artists — emerging and established alike. When galleries champion local talent, when collectors choose to invest in original work, and when institutions like the Stock Show elevate new voices, the result is a vibrant cultural ecosystem that supports livelihoods, preserves heritage, and keeps creative expression alive in the West.
We are honored to represent artists at every stage of their journey and to help connect collectors with the stories, families, and traditions behind the work.
Congratulations to Malena, Cody, and Nelson. We’re proud of you — and grateful to be part of
your artistic path.
